Dr. Shirley Pannapara completed her undergraduate prerequisites at University of St. Thomas and attended University of Houston where she received her B.S. in Optometry and her Doctorate in Optometry. She completed her Glaucoma Certification Course at University of Houston.
Dr. Pannapara's specialties include geriatric and pediatric vision care, dry eyes, multifocal and hard to fit contact lenses, and concierge frame styling. She has been in practice for 20 years and says what made her specialize in her field is: "The one on one aspect of optometry helped me realize that I can make a difference in the vision of my patients, helping to further their life's functions and goals."
"I am a hands on optometrist, as I perform a complete eye examination on every one of my patients, from start to finish. If possible, I follow my patient to the optical to help frame style him/her. In a way, I suppose I can be referred to as a 'concierge optometrist.'"
Dr. Pannapara's favorite patient story is: "I have a long time patient of 20+years who gets an eye infection from time to time, who has told me that she'd rather come see me for her eye care than go to an urgent care clinic or to the emergency room. She has told me, 'You're not just my eye doctor, you're part of my family!'"
Dr. Pannapara was born in Louisville, KY. She moved to Houston at age 5 and attended (most of) elementary, middle school and high school in Fort Bend County. She considers Sugar Land her home town.
Outside of work she enjoys spending time and laughing with family and friends. Her hobbies include reading
books and walking miles to eventually train for a half marathon. Dr. Pannapara has a husband and 3 kids. The 2 oldest attend high school (senior and sophomore) and the youngest is about to enter middle school next year.
